About Lizabeth Walsh, Master Journalism Educator
Degree: BA in English Literature from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 1989
Advanced Degree: MA in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ, 1999
Teaching Bio: After a brief stint in the real estate world, Walsh realized her heart was truly in the classroom. Returning to UNLV as a graduate special student in 1991, Walsh picked up all the classes required for certification as a secondary comprehensive studies English teacher, which qualified her to teach speech & debate, theater arts, literature, grammar, writing, journalism, newspaper and yearbook in Nevada.
Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas) was Walsh's first teaching assignment and the place where she learned about the world of high school journalism. She worked there from 1991-1996, then moved to Palo Verde High School (Las Vegas) to run the journalism department and teach English. She taught newspaper, yearbook, introduction to journalism, and freshman and sophomore English there from 1996-2000. In 2000, Walsh and her family moved to Reno, Nevada, and she took a job teaching yearbook, newspaper, speech & debate, and two English courses at Reed High School (Sparks) until 2003. Walsh now teaches sophomore English and yearbook at Reno High School, where she has been since 2003.
